Inspect the ceiling from different viewpoints
The same surface can look different from the doorway and beside the window. Check joints, cracks, earlier repairs and stains. If there are signs of a leak, resolve the cause before decorating. Send daylight photographs and mention the ceiling height: both help assess preparation and access requirements.
Include surface repairs in the scope
A new coat of paint will not level joints or depressions. Agree the required filling, sanding and priming separately from applying the finish. Paint type and sheen should suit the surface and lighting. Assessing a small sample in the light you normally use in the room can help when discussing the desired appearance.
Plan access and room protection
Overhead work needs clear access to the entire area. Decide beforehand where furniture can go and how the floor will be protected. If walls and ceilings are both being painted, agree their sequence as one job. This helps protect completed surfaces and avoids repeating preparation unnecessarily.
What to include in an enquiry
State the room area and height, mouldings, light fittings and visible defects. Add preferred dates and whether wall painting is included. Access can differ between an Oslo apartment and a house in Drammen or Asker. Parking, the floor level and space to leave equipment are useful details to discuss before agreeing the schedule.
